In addition to our regular concert series, the WHCO strives to be an active member in the broader arts community. Listed below are a few of the larger projects that we have been involved with recently with organizations near and far.
Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance
NoMAA is a wonderful community partner to many arts organizations in Upper Manhattan, and we strive to participated in outreach events whenever we can, including the annual Uptown Arts Stroll.
Films Al Fresco
Members of the WHCO participated with Inwood Art Works during the summer months as part of their Film Works Al Fresco outdoor movie series.
Higher Ground Festival
In collaboration with the Higher Ground Festival and the Fort Washington Community Choir singers, players from the WHCO performed Orfeo 2018 — a story which borrowed from the 1606 Claude Monteverdi opera.
Western Carolina University
In spring 2019, the WHCO were artists-in-residence at Western Carolina University, performing with university students Poulenc’s “Gloria,” Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” and Brahms’ “Academic Festival Overture.”
NYC School District 6
In the Heights
On Memorial Day Weekend 2019, WHCO Music Director and members of the WHCO performed “in the pit” for the local performance of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “In the Heights” — performed by students from District 6 at George Washington Education Campus and made possible by Warner Brothers media.
United Palace of Cultural Arts
Too Hot to Handel
As part of our 2018 - 2019 season of programming, the WHCO, Fort Washington Community Choir and the United Palace of Cultural Arts partnered for one unforgettable evening! Performing Handel’s Messiah arranged for jazz and gospel (originally conceived by Marin Alsop of the Baltimore Symphony) the evening brought the house down in a spectacular holiday performance!
European-American Musical Alliance
The Legacy of Nadia Boulanger
In spring 2019, WHCO partnered with the European-American Musical Alliance to bring a unique lecture-style concert experience focused on Nadia Boulanger and her legacy.
